How To Install Exterior PVC Trim

By Ben Bogie

Cellular PVC is a durable and clean-looking alternative to wood when you need to install trim that will hold up to the elements. PVC trim can be shaped and fastened with the same tools you would use for wood, but there are some differences that it’s helpful to know before you get started. In this Shop Class video series Builder Ben Bogie will share tips and tricks for a professional installation of PVC trim over a rain screen. He’ll cover several crucial details, including:

  • Setting a reference point for trim and siding layout
  • Installing rakes fascias, and soffits
  • Creating an attractive water table detail using a stock window-molding profile
  • Getting tight and straight inside outside corner boards
  • Building window and door casings
  • Dealing with small electrical and plumbing penetrations
